A storm had moved in sealing off the channel. Wave after wave detonated across the reef, throwing spray into the Pacific air while the jungle peaks faded into shadow beneath the storm light. We sat there waiting in our little boat for an opening, one brief moment where the ocean would loosen its grip long enough to let us through.
