They waited for me together. While the village moved around in the dust and heat, these two sisters stood side by side, hands locked tightly together as I photographed others. They never drifted apart. Just waited patient, completely certain they belonged beside one another. This wasn’t a performance, not posing. The paint on their skin carried tradition, but it was their connection I wanted to photograph. They didn’t need to tell me they were sisters. You could see it int the way they held each other.
